My husband and I went here for Saturday brunch with my parents. The wait was not long, maybe 15 minutes. Atmosphere is nice, less noisy than yum cha, comfortable seating and tables.
We had the chicken and cheese roti - not very chinese but it was tasty, light and fluffy. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered another one, as well as the plain one.
We had the green spinach noodles with vege and crab roe, the plain fried noodles with mushroom, spinach tofu, black sesame piggy buns, crab spring rolls, and the fried daikon radish cakes.
The noodles had a great taste, nice balance in the sauce that lets the flavour of the fresh noodles shine. We marvelled at the chef in the window stretching our noodles until they were thin! The mushrooms were really "mushroomy".
Tofu was silky on the inside and crisp on the outside. The sauce if the daikon cakes was tangy and salty and nice. The spring rolls were super crispy and yummy. The piggy buns were cute, but nothing special taste wise.
Service was ok, which is better than expected at a chinese restaurant. No stuff-ups, no delays, but a couple of times the waiters had to double check our order.
My parents who are chinese and usually turn their noses up at modern/fusion chinese cuisine really liked the food and had no complaints.
My hubby who isnt chinese and normally doesnt like chinese food said it was the best chinese food he had ever eaten, and was happy to pay the $90ish for the bill.
Not cheap but not too exxy considering yum cha or lunch at a nice food court for 4 would be about $60-$75 nowadays anyway, and we even took some away.
Worth a try, or for a special occasion!
Have been going to Ella Rouge Eastgardens for ten years now, on and off. They seem to have a fairly high staff turnover, i never manage to get the same person more than twice.
The quality of the products is amazing, they only use high grade cosmeceutical products such as MD Formulations and Dermalogica.
The downside is that every staff member does the hard-sell, which wouldnt matter so much if the advice/suggestions were consistent, however their opinions always differ from the last beautician, and you feel pressured into buying something new everytime.
The treatments are expensive, but i always find myself going back there for the quality. Their microdermabrasion is incredible, have not tried a better treatment elsewhere.
Expensive treatments and products, but worth trying if you really need to 'revamp' your skin.
Went to Hair by Nivine using a $100 spreets voucher for the Natura Keratin brazilian hair straightening treatment (normally $430). The hairdresser was very informative and all staff were friendly. The experience was very pleasant and the product smelt very natural. They didnt rush the process.
I have long hair which is normally quite straight, but just a bit 'fluffy'. I followed the instructions about not washing your hair for three days, and also bought and used the recommended shampoo and conditioner.
I have given the quality a lower score because the effects did not last long, maybe just over a month. Their website suggests that it should last 3-5 months.
Would not recommend full price, but definitely worth trying if you come across a voucher.
Dr Lai provides an exceptional level of service - he takes the time to explain the differences between contacts and contact solutions, and can give you samples to try if you are not comfortable with making a decision there and then.
His eye examination is very thorough. I have been to some others, including OPSM, where the optometrist only spent 5 minutes for the whole examination (only did the one test to get the prescription). You don't realise how good he is until you go somewhere else! Highly recommended if you have never been here before.
I agree with TeresiaL that they dont have a big range of frames however there is certainly enough to make a selection.
We have had several birthday dinners here, due to the fact that its one of the only large chinese restaurants in the area. Each experience has been very disappointing. It always takes ages for each course to arrive, and the quality is very poor. Our ginger shallot lobster and ginger shallot crab dishes (both not cheap) lacked taste and were overcooked. Our chinese broccoli was oily, the dessert soup was lukewarm, and the service was average. Yum cha is average but certainly nothing to write home about.
Unassuming singaporean malaysian restaurant with a casual feel which is great for an impromptu group dinner or just dinner with my hubby. Super-sized portions and excellent value for money. The har mee (hokkien soup noodles with king prawns) broth is clear and packed with flavour. Laksa and chao kway teo are winners. Make sure you ask for 'not spicy' if you dont handle chilli well. Spacious dining area suitable for all ages, never have to wait even though they are always busy as there are lots of tables.
Approximate cost: $12
The good: great food, great value, go with at least three or four other people so you can try lots. You must have the kecap manis sotong, which is crispy fried calamari in dark sticky sweet soy sauce with a little chilli kick. Pay $60 for four adults and a toddler.
The bad: quite cramped - not good for fidgety kids or elderly folk but its ok if you dont plan on staying for long.
The ugly: sometimes can be a bit disconcerting when you get seated in a small laneway that leads straight to a carpark, toilet can be a bit dodgy (its outsidd in the laneway).
Have been here several times for family birthdays. The set menu is $36 and you always leave feeling happily stuffed. You start with dips and fresh crusty bread, spinach pie and cheese turnovers, in crisp filo pastry, tasty fried calamari, and greek salad. Then you get juicy roast lamb and potatoes, and moussaka for your main. To finish it off (if u can still fit it in) there is a mint turkish delight and Greek cake (not sure what its called but it has a soft puff pastry with thick custard filling). Definitely recommended for those dinners where you just dont know where to go. Service is very good, has a relaxed but not casual atmosphere. My grandpa is a fussy eater and doesnt like to eat out much, but he enjoyed dining here. Great value.
After trying many sushi trains and restaurants, this is still one of my favourites. If u dont like to wait, tick the table option - you will get seated faster and you can still grab sushi from the train. Because they are always busy, the food is always fresh. Even when im bursting at the seams, i always have room for their prawn tempura omelette or california handrolls, and their lightly seared scallop sushi. Value for money is average, hubby and i usually end up spending $50 for both of us for dinner.
