Popular place in Surrey Hills - gets very busy at lunch. Food is ok - not great, just ok - but there is a good selection on offer. Service is very friendly however - know all the girls there and they are great. Coffee is ok. Prices are definitely not great - its expensive for what it is, but I guess that's to be expected in Surrey Hills.

This review is for Piccolo, Williamstown VIC

Tiny coffee shop with its shopfront in Whitaker walk and right next to the Cupcake Queens. Piccolo offers some of the best coffee you'll get in the Williamstown/Newport area! There is a limited menu offering focaccias etc, and its limited I think because the kitchen is approximately the size of a shoebox. I haven't eaten here yet, but I've seen the food prepared and it looks good.
The coffee is what I come here for though - I'm not exaggerating when I say that its exceptional. The service is also fantastic - friendly, quick, and professional.
The value is about standard - you're looking at around $4 for a cup of coffee - but that's the only thing that is standard about it. Awesome little place that deserves a lot of attention.

This review is for The Bristol Hotel, Williamstown VIC

Firstly, let me just say that from the outside this is by far the dodgiest looking pub in Williamstown. The exterior was in need of a good coat of paint about 30 years ago! Not a lot of care has been shown to this relic of a building, which is a bit of a shame because its quite a distinctive building.
Inside...its no better.
But let me make something very clear - this is not your typical Williamstown pub. This is something else, and something very special. More like a friendly community centre than a pub, once you get past the fact that it looks dodgy as and get down the business of having a beer and chatting to the regulars, you soon realise that you are in a salt-of-the-earth establishment with real characters both behind the bar and in front of it.
I've had a couple of excellent drinking sessions at the Bristol. Winter is my favourite time to visit this establishment, as the open fire is crackling in the background. There's a pool table that is perfectly fine, but you don't go here to play pool. The beer from the tap is fantastic (of course) and the prices are excellent. The owner of the pub is quite an intriguing character - gruff at first, but once you get past that and get talking to him he's got a heart of gold and is very generous as well.
So - please - do not let the exterior or the interior scare you from frequenting the Bristol. this is a very old-school pub that's genuine and fun and full of people that I guarantee you'll be interested to meet.

This review is for Hot Golden Bakery, Williamstown VIC

No issues with the quality of the goods from this bakery - the bread is beautiful and fresh (as you'd expect). The pies are nice - not the best you'll ever have but still pretty damn decent, and the sweets are nice as well.
The price is right, the service is good, and the food is tasty. What more can you ask for?

This review is for Hobson's Bay Fish Shop, Williamstown VIC

Perfectly good fish and chip shop that is pretty popular amongst the natives of Williamstown. The quality of the fish and chips is good, however there are better in the immediate vicinity. The service provided is excellent however - there are no issues with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The quality of the batter and the chips are good.

Took my sons here for a dental xray recently. The waiting room is a bit grim but I cant fault the staff - they work hard and are efficient without compromising on service. They also took no time at all to take both my boys and provide me with the xrays. Great experience!

This review is for Rhuarc's Pet Supplies, Newport VIC

Great place to go for all kinds of pet supplies and toys and what-nots. The staff are very passionate about animals and very enthusiastic to help you out. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't sell fishbowls! Honestly - what kind of pet supplies store doesn't sell fishbowls?

This review is for Switch Board Cafe, Melbourne VIC

Best coffee in the CBD hands down. Its an effort to find in the old Manchester Unity building, and if you blink when you walk past it you'll miss it entirely - its literally a hole in the wall on one side, with another slightly larger hole in the wall on the other side for seating (VERY limited) - but its quirky and cool and if you love coffee you'll never be disappointed. Its worth making an effort to try it.
They also offer limited food options like muffins and toasties (yum!). Service is fast and usually pretty friendly. A great hidden Melbourne institution, and one very worthy of your custom!

This review is for Star Walk Cafe, Melbourne VIC

Perfectly serviceable cafe right in the heart of the city. Offers a good range of food and beveridge at reasonable prices - does a great breakfast, and actually has a large range of breakfast options available if the standard bacon and eggs isnt really your thing.
Service is friendly. Good seating available. the decor is slightly dated and its got very little atmosphere as such, but its neat and clean.

This review is for Kebab World, Melbourne VIC

verified email - 13 Feb 2013

Kebab World, located in the food court of the Australia on Collins centre, is my go-to place if I want a kebab for lunch on a weekday. Their kebabs are pretty tasty, and cost $9.20 (you can get deals with a drink and chips for a little bit more). For something different, try their toasted gourmet rolls - at $9.50 its marginally more expensive but worth it. I especially love the satay chicken roll!
Service is friendly and because its in the food court there's plenty of seating available. This wont be the best kebab you've ever had, but its still pretty darn good and conveniently located right in the heart of the city as well!

Approximate cost: $9.50
