This review is for The Oyster Shop, Glenelg SA

The food at the Oyster shop is amazing!!! I love getting a seafood pack and going down to the beach. Even if you're by yourself, getting a delicious light, filling dinner pack from this shop and then laying on the beach is really special and an awesome way to spend an evening!!

The only drawback is the price. It's pretty expensive. But there's nowhere else as good for fish, chips, real calamari (not the proccessed junk that some shops have started serving, for unknown reasons), and delicious prawns!

I used to live in Glenelg and I miss this shop so much. I'm going to make a daytrip soon and visit!

This review is for The Bay Fish Shop, Glenelg SA

The bay fish shop is disappointing, especially because it's one of the few places in Glenelg that actually do fish and chips. The fish is not super fresh and the batter is gross. I've started going elsewhere!

This review is for Manee Siam, Goodwood SA

manee siam is around the corner from us and we went there on my boyfriend's recommendation.

I don't love curry but this place does such fragrant, mild curry (extra mild if you ask for it!) that I was tempted to try it. I think next time I'll go for the noodles but I can say that their curry doesn't disappoint! if you are a connoisseur, you'll find yourself returning again and again; their red, green and other (forgotten the name!!) curries are all totally amazing.

The coconut juice is spectacular too.

Well worth a visit!

This review is for Avis Car Rental, Mascot NSW

We hired a truck through Avis in Hindmarsh.
Now, we had an accident in the truck and I don't want you thinking I'm just being sour grapes. But holy heck! This was a nightmare to sort out and the extra hidden costs were frustrating - we were told the excess would be $1000 exactly, but not told that there were 'processing fees' and GST added, so it ended up costing nearly $1200.

I think a little more transparency and clarity around such an important issue would have helped. My advice to anyone hiring a car or truck: ask all the questions, look for a place that has the lowest total excess, not JUST the cheapest hiring rate, and know your rights.

The manager was a very friendly chap and I'm glad to say he was pretty kind and personable.

But transparency and honesty are good business policies and I think AVIS wasn't clear enough on those points!!!

This review is for Red Ruby Vintage, Adelaide SA

verified email - 29 Dec 2012

The clothes at Red Ruby Vintage are stunning! And they are priced as you'd expect to pay - some of the amazing things are quite expensive but everything else is around the median vintage price.

As others have said, the owner can be a bit grumpy. But her clothes are amazing, and I've found that on repeat visits she has warmed up and been quite personable, chatting and smiling and being quite human!

I know I have walked out of stores when the customer service is too crappy but the quality of the vintage here makes it a rarity in Adelaide and a must-see!

This review is for World's End Hotel, Adelaide SA

The worlds end seems like it's finally coming into its' own. It's struggled in the past to find regular clientele but now it's got so much going on! Their food is good, really classy and tasty for a pub, and they have lots of Fringe events and bands on.

If you're looking for a show during the Fringe, a nice meal or a drink, the Worldsend is a great place to go. And the staff are really nice! The prices are great too.

This review is for Crown And Anchor Hotel, Adelaide SA

verified email - 29 Dec 2012

The crown and anchor don't do food and they don't have pokies. They do have a great bunch of punters, a bands room that plays a variety of interesting bands, and a punk/goth/indie vibe that waxes and wanes but will always be great.

I say waxes and wanes because the place always loses and gains popularity, because of fashion and good or bad management. I've been going there for 18 years (since I was an underaged goth!!) and I will always have a soft spot for it.

If you are a little bit more alternative and you're looking for somewhere a bit left of centre, the C&A will feel like home!

(And on Friday and Saturday nights you can have a dance when the DJ plays awesome records!)

This review is for Grace Emily Hotel, Adelaide SA

The Grace is another Adelaide institution. The bands they book are so fantastic, if you ever hear the Bon Scotts are in town, or the Honey Pies are playing there, drop what you're doing and make sure you get down there!

But really, any of the bands are going to be good, the atmosphere is fantastic, with an eclectic mix of people and some older people too -which is great if you don't feel like hanging out with a bunch of teenagers.

The staff are super relaxed and friendly too.

A fantastic place for a drink or three!!

This review is for The Exeter Hotel, Adelaide SA

verified email - 29 Dec 2012

The exeter is renowned for its' curries. I don't even like curry that much, and I still like theirs. They also do standard pub fare well.

The reason people keep coming back to the exeter though, isn't for the food. It's for the culture and atmosphere. It's one of THE places to drink on a Friday or Saturday night, and on week nights too, you'll find a great band playing or djs playing old records.

If you're from interstate, and you're looking for a great pub, you need to visit the Exeter!

This review is for T-Chow Chinese Restaurant, Adelaide SA

verified email - 29 Dec 2012

T-chow is so inconsistent. I have friends who swear by it and some of the food is totally delicious, but some is a bit less so.

If you have favourites from the menu or someone recommends a dish, then it's a great place to eat. But we went there last night and whilst my vegetarian friend's dish was really tasty (salt and pepper tofu, very fragrant and delicious), mine wasn't.
I ordered the cabbage rolls, expecting something similar to a polish cabbage roll, and instead got a plate with 14 or 15 little escargo type rolls of chicken and prawn with only a teensy bit of the mushroom mentioned on the menu.
They would have been great as an entree as they were really rich and intense. Two or three would have hit the spot, then I would have been onto something else happily. But as a main they were pretty gross. Lots of little snacks piled on a plate don't make a great main!

We've had another bad experience with t-chow, when everything we ordered was delicious except for the claypot. I usually love a good claypot, but they were busy and had obviously run out of some ingredients. Instead of telling us to order something different, they sent it out looking woeful - instead of seafood and vegetables, it was seafood extender and carrot. It is actually the first time I've ever sent something back! We couldn't eat it! But the rest of the dinner was lovely, especially their san choy bow, and my friend was down from Melbourne and had a great time.

I think there's better chinese restaurants in the area, but some people swear by t-chow so I would recommend choosing something generic or following their choices!
