This review is for Watt Restaurant & Bar, New Farm QLD

Located right on the river and next to New Farm park on the ground floor of the Brisbane Powerhouse, this place tends to attract people looking to eat before a show at the Powerhouse.

The bar has a different menu with dishes around $20 and the restaurant has dishes around $30. All great food. I found the bar menu more interesting, though the restaurant menu isn't too bad.

The bar menu has things like Fish tacos, mussels, and burgers. Nice for a reasonably priced meal before a show.

This review is for The Smoke BBQ, New Farm QLD

While not a big meat eater, I do enjoy great meat dishes. The Smoke BBQ is a great place to eat with a varied menu, from cheap options through to more expensive dishes. All heavy on meat, most light on vegetables, and all perfect to enjoy with a beer (or many beers).

We grabbed a platter and had a few drinks and a good time was had by all.

I tend to order the platters in Greek restaurants, and this place does nice platters. They also do burgers and other less Greek stuff.

A nice cafe restaurant, with a limited menu. Worth popping in for lunch or dinner.

A great Thai restaurant with real Thai dishes. The seafood dishes are especially good. If you are trying to impress someone, order the non-stir fried dishes, because they you end up with much better presentation. But the stir fried dishes are tasty too.

This review is for Sushi Kotobuki, East Brisbane QLD

While the name is sushi, this is a nice place to go for noodles, donburi rice dishes and bento boxes. A nice all round sushi restaurant by the part with reasonable prices.

In fact I would avoid the sushi, but enjoy the other dishes.

This review is for Red Baron Coffee, Milton QLD

verified email - 12 Jul 2016

The Red Baron Coffee is one of those places that is trying to copy the whole American coffee experience. But you know in Australia every cafe already does that, and shipping containers are kind of cool to make a cafe place from, but not really that cool.

Basically this place comes across as a spot where cool matters more than anything else, but by cool, they mean, copying other people.

So they do coffee and some snacks, like toasted sandwiches. Go here if you need over priced coffee to start your day.

This review is for The Edge Cafe, South Brisbane QLD

verified email - 12 Jul 2016

The Edge is part of the State Library of Queensland with things like music studios, 3D printing and design labs. They also have a cafe right on the water edge.

The view is stunning and you are free to come and sit there without buying anything. You can even book the window bays for group meetings, though usually they are free.

There is of course free WiFi as well.

The cafe itself is not that exciting. Okay coffee, pre-made sandwiches and muffins are what you get there. There are several other cafes in the area if you want some decent food for much the same price.

However the views are amazing and it is a great place to sit down and have a discussion. Basically go here for the views or to work, but not for the cafe.

This review is for the dawn tea rooms, Chermside QLD

This traditional tea room has high teas, cakes and savoury snacks and meals served in a lovely decorated and emasculated appointed tea room.

You can go in for a simple scone and tea (they have date scones with cinnamon butter if you want to avoid sugary jam and cream) or have a lovely high tea.

It has only been open for a short time but there already is a steady group of regulars.

A definite alternative to the trendy cafes.

This photography studio specialises in family photographs designed to capture your family in your natural setting. They go to your house or to a park, beach etc, and find you in your natural environment.

Also do business and event photography.

Check out the photos on their website to determine if you want that style of photography. Very artistic and natural.

They also do studio shoots, which are quicker and cheaper.

This review is for Salt, Paddington QLD

Rosalie is a lovely little sub-suburb (used to be a suburb but is now part of Paddington, but don't tell the locals that). Because it is a little off the main area, it has a great village feel.

Salt is a Rosalie restaurant/cafe that has great meals as well as a reputation for coffee and snacks.
